Coagulation activator must be introduced to plastic tubes in order to collect serum samples from them. Silica particles are added to YAVAC® & YALAB® serum tubes since the plastic surface alone is not enough to cause the coagulation to occur in a reasonable amount of time.
The ability to identify the marker HbA1c from the same tube eliminates the need for a separate tube sample, which is one benefit of the Fluoride/EDTA tube over the Fluoride Oxalate tube.

It is recommended to gently invert fluoride tubes 180 degrees and then back again 8–10 times.
