Coagulation activator must be introduced to plastic tubes in order to collect serum samples from them. Silica particles are added to YAVAC® & YALAB® serum tubes since the plastic surface alone is not enough to cause the coagulation to occur in a reasonable amount of time.
Samples from patients who have not received anticoagulant treatment should coagulate for at least 30 to 45 minutes for serum (red).
For plastic serum tubes, centrifuging conditions are 1300 g for 10 minutes at 18–25 C.
Gently invert the serum tubes 180 degrees and then back again 6–8 times.
